For part of my degree I had an events management class, as it took place during the Covid-19 pandemic the brief was to organise an online/virtual event. Working as part of a group we set out to arrange a virtual music festival, the ‘Lock-in’ featuring young and up-in-coming DJ’s local to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Inspired by ‘Boiler Room’ an online music broadcasting platform, commissioning and streaming live music sessions around the world. We wanted to gain exposure for young artists with limited opportunities to perform during the pandemic and boost morale for those in lockdown. Teaming up with sponsors such as fashion brand 10T who transform festival tents which are left at campsites after events into new garments and accessories and charity #1goodturn helping those who are homeless, vulnerable or struggling on a low income. Promoting via social media to engage with our target audience, we created content that advertised the event and gave insight into the acts and brands involved. The event was a success, with the livestream exceeding our expectations by reaching over 700 views and a great deal of interaction on our Instagram account.
